THE BORDER OF TESTACCIO
ARCH499A Urban Design Studio, Spring 2022

for Rione XX Testaccio, Rome, Italy

As a group of three members, research and investigate the Testaccio district of Rome, critically analyzing existing issues within the urban fabric. Create a master plan at the urban scale to address existing issues, and individually develop proposals that address different areas within the master plan. The master plan for 'Redefining Pomerium: The Knot' focuses on reuniting the historical relevance of Testaccio with the current district's culture. 'The Border' redefines the entrance to the Ex Mattatoio site and reconnects the area to the Tiber River and other Testaccio landmarks. 'The Tower' extends vertically to highlight the unique historical sites of Testaccio through elevated vistas. 'New Campo' uses the site of the original A.S. Roma stadium to create a new recreational center that caters to local artisan vendors.
